What is wellbeing?

The state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.

Oxford dictionary definition of wellbeing.

  • Is it about having good relationships?
  • Is it about doing exercise?
  • Is it about eating healthy food?

It’s a mixture of things.

The CHIME factors

These are the five things that all people need in their lives. We call them CHIME factors:

Connectedness: A sense of belonging and feeling connected to people, places, pets, hobbies, nature, spirituality etc.

Hope: A vision or belief in the future being different than it is now, a life worth living. An individually fulfilling life.

Identity: Being more than the problems that you face, it’s being a friend, daughter or son, a poet, an athlete. That which makes us unique and different.

Meaning: Having a sense of what you want in life, what’s important and what motivates you. A sense of direction or goals, however big or small, to work towards. A reason to keep doing what you are doing.

Empowerment: Developing a strong sense of self. The belief that we have options and the ability to make informed choices for ourselves.
