How our brain reacts

Here is the science bit. Your brain is really clever. One of its more important jobs is to try and keep you as safe as possible.

When a bad thing happens the bottom part of your brain decides what is the best thing to do, without needing to ask you.
This means you do one of 3 things:
- You run away.
- Try and find out what has happened.
- You stay very quiet.
This is because your brain knows what the best is to keep you as safe as it can. Even when a very bad thing happens. Your brain will do the best job it can to try and keep everyone safe.
The brain’s main job is to keep you safe. When a major incident happens, your brain will quickly choose to either:
- Run away.
- Try to defend yourself.
- Stay very quiet and still.
