Getting some extra help

If you’ve been having difficult feelings for over 4 weeks, your parents or carers might need to get you some extra help. This doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong. What happened to you might be so big that it would be hard for anyone to deal with.

There could be lots of reasons why you’re having difficult feelings.

The following list gives some of these reasons

  • Someone very close to you has died.
  • More than one person has died.
  • You’ve moved from your birth country and you miss your friends and family.
  • You’re not living with your birth family and feel different to other children.
  • You’re having school troubles like bullying or finding it hard to make friends.

These are things that adults can struggle with too. Sometimes they will go to the doctor who will make an appointment for them to speak to someone with special training to help them like a counsellor or a therapist.

Your parent or carer can take you to the doctor or maybe your teacher can arrange for you to speak to someone else about how you are feeling. Don’t worry about this, these people want to help you to find the best ways to help yourself.
