This resource is for parents and carers of children and young people who have an autism diagnosis.

It is designed to be an updated and improved online version of the previous Brief ASCEND course which was being delivered through three half day face-to-face sessions prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The language used within this course has been updated using guidance from the National Autistic Society around how to talk and write about autism. However, we are aware that each individual has their own preference on how they wish to be described and some content within the course is at the persons discretion in lived experience quotes, linked embedded content and graphs, pictures, book titles. As such, you should always take this into account and respect and value their preferences.

You can find out more information on guidance from the National Autistic Society by clicking the following button:

This ADAPT resource has been co-produced with York CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) and CYC (City of York Council) Specialist Teaching Team for Autism in York.

There are 19 sections which should take approximately 2 to 3 hours to complete, but this timing will depend on how fast you read, if you watch all of the videos, and how long you spend on any questions.

You do not need to complete the whole resource in one go. If you leave and come back later or another day, it will remember where you got up to.
