We’ve recently launched a brand new information page covering all aspects of perinatal mental health. Maternal Mental Health week was 4th – 10th May 2026, and we launched the page to coincide with this important awareness week.
Perinatal mental health refers to a person’s emotional and psychological wellbeing during pregnancy and up to roughly one year after. While the perinatal period can be a positive and exciting time, it also brings major physical, hormonal and life changes that can affect mental health. Almost a third of individuals who are pregnant or have recently given birth will experience some form of mental health difficulty.
Perinatal mental health difficulties can show up in many ways, often beginning with changes in how a person feels, thinks, or behaves during pregnancy or after birth.
The information page looks at things such as:
- What is perinatal mental health?
- What are the different types of perinatal mental health difficulties?
- What are the signs of perinatal mental health difficulties?
- What causes perinatal mental health difficulties?
- What can help?
As well as all of the helpful information, there are a number of personal experiences which have kindly been shared with us. These are really worth taking the time to read, as they truly help to give a realistic picture of life for someone struggling with their mental health during the perinatal period.
