Introduction to creating a routine for positive change

Introducing the course

A lot of research shows that having useful routines can help our physical and mental health. However, our routines can sometimes be one of the first things that we lose in times of difficulty. This can result in less helpful habits occurring and the development of a routine that you’re unhappy with.

This course will be beneficial to anyone who wants to recognise helpful habits that they already have, build new positive habits and, create routines that are beneficial for their wellbeing. It gives ideas about how to add new habits to your day and how to maintain a helpful routine even when things are difficult. By the end of this course, you should be able to plan or adapt your own routine.

Course aims

  1. An understanding of routines  and how to form them using habit stacking.
  2. Knowledge of what a routine is and the positive and negative effects of having one.
  3. Knowledge of how the Cycle of Change and the CHIME factors can be used to create a new routine.
  4. Ideas about the habits that can form part of a beneficial morning and evening routine.
